Chrysler Group LLC is an American car manufacturer. The company headquarter based in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, Michigan. In 1925 Chrysler was organized as Chrysler Corporation.
On June 10, 2010, Chrysler Group LLC emerged from a Chapter 11 reorganization and announced a plan for an alliance with Italy's Fiat. Fiat has a 25% stake in the new company, with an option to increase its stake to 35% and 51%, if it meets the financial and development goals for the company. Fiat participation can not go beyond 49% until the government has been paid in full.
The company was founded by Walter Chrysler (1875-1940) on 6 June 1925, when the Maxwell Motor Company (founded in 1904) was re-organized in the Chrysler Corporation.
Walter Chrysler had originally arrived at the company in crisis Maxwell-Chalmers in the 1920's, after being hired to take over and review the operations of the company's problems (just after a similar rescue work in Willys company). In late 1923 the production of the Chalmers automobile was ended.
